6 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Jan 11)
5. Grimes Focuses On Gold, Bivens Focuses On New Blood
New Year's Evil also saw former Million Dollar Champion Cameron Grimes seemingly switch his attention away from bringing in the green and that weird spell of swiping right, with his new focus now being on lifting some long-awaited gold in 2022. And it's about damn time.
Glossing over the fact that Grimes still rocked up to the CWC with all of his usual dollar sign and stock market schtick despite claiming to be dropping that money-orientated element of his gimmick, Grimes was back on form in a brief but enjoyable bout with fresh face Damon Kemp.
The Minnesota Uni alumni - no pressure then, kid - put in a decent enough showing here too as Malcolm Bivens watched on, clearly needing to fill out his unit after another unexpected release impacted his squad in the form of a Hachiman departure. But few ever expected anything but a Grimes win here, with The Dogefather executing a rusty Cave-In to pick up a first win of 2022 en-route to some Championship dances going forward. And while it's more likely the freshly trimmed star will be going after Carmelo Hayes' mid-card gold in the future, would it really be so wrong to throw him in there with Bronny and let the good times roll?
