6 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Dec 14)
5. Grayson Waller Finally Arrives
WWE.comIt's been a bit of a stop start run for one Grayson Waller since really arriving on the scene during the 2.0 era. His quality in-between the ropes hasn't ever been in question, putting in efficient to entertaining displays against the likes of Roderick Strong and LA Knight. But things just weren't exactly clicking with his overall persona away from the squared-circle, with his social media obsessed gimmick not gelling with what is required of a 2021 babyface.
Cue a decent heel turn on Lashing Out with Lash Legend and a slow generating of heat over the course of a sometimes muddled rivalry with the aforementioned Knight. But his real coming out party came last week after massacring the departing Johnny Gargano post-heartbreaking send-off.
Determined to capitalise on some nuclear heat seven days later, Waller lent into his violent goodbye to Johnny Wrestling by brilliantly mocking the former NXT Champion's touching "bet on yourself" line. The newcomer claimed to have done exactly that last week and proceeded to replay the footage to the sound of "*sshole" chants aplenty before ripping Wade Barrett a new one for his Twitter approval and chastising Vic Joseph for allowing him to brutalise his best bud.
Stellar despicable heel work from start to finish; including beating down Knight and scooting off in his car after being thrown out of the locker room. If Waller can keep this level of pure and unfiltered hatred towards him going for the foreseeable, NXT could have a new heelish top worker on their hands in no time.
