2. Cruiserweight Title Bout Electrifies

Now this is more like it.

For weeks, we’ve been lowering expectations for the new WWE cruiserweight division, accepting the fact that we’re just not going to see 10-15 minute matches on Raw that showcase the wrestling acumen of the smaller performers. We just should be grateful they’re getting 3-4 minutes to hone their craft on TV.

But Monday, Neville successfully defended his WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Rich Swann in a solid, entertaining match that featured some high-flying moves and energetic counters. Swann was his usual frenetic self, and Neville sneered and brooded his way to victory. It was exactly the kind of match that the division needed, following up on a pretty good title match at Fastlane with Jack Gallagher.

If this is a sign of things to come, then it’s a great thing. Even if it’s temporary due to being WrestleMania season, we’ll still take it and enjoy it while it’s here.
