6 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Crown Jewel 2019

4. Big Matches Fail To Deliver

Throughout the lead-up to Crown Jewel, two matches were pitched as the main draws, both circus bouts in their nature: Tyson Fury versus Braun Strowman, and Cain Velasquez versus Brock Lesnar.

Neither match was expected to be “good” in the traditional sense, but neither was entertaining in any way. The Velasquez/Lesnar match went on first and was over before people had sat down, with minimal action. The beatdown afterward (Brock attacking Cain and Rey Mysterio chairing Lesnar) lasted longer than the match.

The Fury/Strowman match could have been fun, but they clearly were limited in what they could do, and again, it just didn’t translate well. Sadly, this wasn’t Muhammad Ali confronting Gorilla Monsoon or a spectacle like that. It just fell flat, with Fury landing one punch as his offensive move and the match ending in a countout.

If you enjoyed these matches, bully for you, but this writer wasn’t expecting much and still wasn’t impressed.
