7 Best Promos In Wrestling Today
2. Jay White
The insufferable Switchblade had a rather regrettable debut in 2017. Returning from excursion, White looked out of place as an emo heel picking a fight with the mighty Hiroshi Tanahashi. Many criticised his sudden push, feeling the likes of EVIL, SANADA and Zack Sabre Jr. were worthier of a singles feud at the Tokyo Dome last year.
In the 18+ months since that initial debut, White has turned fans’ expectations on their heads. Acquiring the kind of fan disgust and heat once thought extinct by the likes of Jim Cornette, White has gotten under everyone’s skin.
His attitude is supremely arrogant, his matches rely heavily on his Bullet Club cronies getting involved and he resorts to the cheapest tactics he can whenever possible. He speaks with disdain for his opponents, pettily mocking every level of their being. When he loses, he whinges and whines at the various injustices he falsely claims befell him. As leader of the Bullet Club, White speaks like a gangleader, a morally bankrupt scumbag in a promotion where respect and earning one’s place are still key storytelling tropes.
The 26 year old New Zealander has cemented his place as public enemy number 1 in New Japan and looks to be well on his way to being the greatest heel of his generation.
