7 Countries That Have Had The Most Impact On WWE

7. Italy

wwe.comwwe.comThe most valued talent that Italy has ever gifted to WWE is undeniably Bruno Sammartino. Born in Pizzoferrato, Sammartino was the biggest draw in the wrestling industry in the 1960s and 1970s, so much so that he lays claim to possibly one of the greatest achievements ever in sports entertainment. Sammartino holds the record for the longest continuous world title reign in history at 7 years, 8 months and 1 day. His revered title reign was so important in the eyes of the viewing audience at the time, that when he lost the title to Ivan Koloff in Madison Square Garden in 1971, the crowd was so shocked that they fell deadly silent, making Sammartino question whether his hearing had been damaged. Sammartino went on to have another lengthy title run starting in 1973, which concluded at 3 years, 4 months and 20 days. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, forever cementing the impact he had on the then-blossoming company of Vince McMahon Sr. However, the influence of Italy on WWE does not stop at Bruno Sammartino. Many superstars past and present have come from Italian descent, such as John Cena, Hulk Hogan, The Bella Twins and Randy Savage, to name just a few, and of course, we cannot continue without mentioning everyone's favourite jobber, Santino Marella. Although his on-screen character is goofy and sometimes cringeworthy, Santino has become the loveable jester of WWE who we always cheer for, despite our best judgment!
