7 Horrific Injuries Wrestlers Suffered Outside The Ring

4. Kerry Von Erich's Amputated Foot

Around six years before the same kind of smash happened to Lex Luger, Kerry Von Erich was involved in a bad motorcycle wreck in 1986. At the time, Von Erich was riding high in WCCW and was considered one of the most exciting babyfaces in the entire industry. Post-wreck, and despite a two-year spell in the WWF (and brief reign as Intercontinental Champion), his career would never be the same.

Even though he, like Lex, lived to tell the tale afterwards, Kerry suffered a badly dislocated hip and seriously injured his right leg in the smash. When he reached the hospital, doctors fixed him up and all seemed well. It wasn't. Later, Von Erich's foot would have to be amputated, and the impact of that surgery would alter his life forever.

Legend has it that Kerry tried everything he could to keep the missing foot a secret amongst his peers. He even reportedly showered with his boots on to hide the injury from friends, and wore a prosthetic foot to the ring for his matches.

He'd develop a painkiller addiction and ultimately take his own life in 1993.
