It had been rumored for months that Brock Lesnar was scheduled to face Bray Wyatt in a match next to no one wanted to see at WrestleMania 32. All signs seemed to point to the match happening coming out of the Royal Rumble, but WWE abruptly changed plans after Fastlane and slotted Dean Ambrose in that Wyatt spot instead.

It was an infinitely better match on paper, but WWE failed to give fans the impression Ambrose had a shot at beating The Beast Incarnate at The Show of Shows. He was almost always annihilated by Lesnar every time they crossed paths, so the least they could have done was make him more of a threat.

The No Holds Barred stipulation allowed them to do whatever they pleased, but yet they still felt limited in what they could do during the matchup. Ambrose teased going to the extreme in the build to the bout, but the match was pretty tame for the most part. Ambrose scored very little offense, Lesnar took him to Suplex City, hit the F5 on a bunch of chairs to win a "marquee" (i.e. midcard) match that was a mere 13 minutes long.

Virtually everyone expressed disappointment in the match, including Ambrose himself on Stone Cold Steve Austin's WWE Network podcast. Perhaps Lesnar was taking it easy because he didn't want to risk injuring himself ahead of his UFC return fight but, either way, their WrestleMania match fell far below expectations and did nothing to help anyone involved.
