There have been many magical RAW vs. SmackDown matches throughout the history of WWE. Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle went one-on-one at WrestleMania 21 in one of the greatest bouts in promotion history, a cross-brand battle for supremacy that ticked every box available. The Undertaker and Randy Orton also fought at that same event, SmackDown going two and zero over the evening.

This year’s line-up screams ‘laziness’ however. The RAW vs. SmackDown story that we currently have is a half-baked attempt at drumming up some interest in the shows, and it really does feel like a story booked for the sake of doing it. From top to bottom, it makes very little sense.

A few months ago The New Day were beloved babyfaces on RAW - why oh why would they want to viciously attack unsuspecting red brand stars backstage? Chad Gable going straight for Jason Jordan is almost understandable, but what beef does Mojo Rawley have with Titus O’Neill? Tye Dillinger, and Goldust? Carmella and Bayley?

WWE is known for the short-term mentality of its booking, but these sorts of stories well and truly take the biscuit.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
