7 Major Questions Surrounding Brock Lesnar’s Potential USADA Violation
2. So He’ll Be At SummerSlam?
WWE’s statement would certainly suggest that a Lesnar appearance
at SummerSlam is still very much on the cards. And there’s been nothing else
said by the company to hint that this isn’t the case.
But an interesting subtext to all of this is the business of state commissions. As mentioned previously, the exact nature of the punishment rests of the determination of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
If they do indeed ban him, though, that ban isn’t exclusive to Nevada; instead it will apply across multiple commissions—including that of New York. New York is of course the location of SummerSlam, so does this mean he’s going to be banned from the show?
Not necessarily, according to Meltzer. On Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, he explained that there’s a “loophole” in New York whereby they actually license promoters rather than wrestlers. Therefore, it wouldn’t matter, for Brock at least, if he were to be handed a suspension.
Vince McMahon, on the other hand, could receive a sanction—as a promoter—for booking a suspended performer. Kind of confusing, right?
In reality, though, the New York commission would be unlikely to punish the WWE due to the sheer amount of moolah they bring in.
