4. Bobby Lashley Vs. Kofi Kingston - WWE Heavyweight Title Match

A sensible idea executed powerfully, it was a shame WWE had to do this, but they had to do it, at least under the parameters of what comes next.

[SPOILER WARNING]

Goldberg is next for Bobby Lashley, and thus, in preparation of a blockbuster hoss fight at SummerSlam, Bobby Lashley mutilated Kofi Kingston in a protracted squash. All of this was measured perfectly throughout the build and on the night; Kingston entered several long and excellent performances on RAW to re-elevate himself as a main event concern. A super-rare, exceptional WWE babyface, it would be naive and romantic to recall his 2019 WWE Title run being anything other than it was. WWE sensed this, built him back up, and used his considerable value to cast Lashley as a killer.

Lashley did his bit.

Lashley smashed Kofi in a dominant showing devoid totally of sentiment. His power game looked particularly brutal in the Dickies Arena. Three consecutive Dominators told this story in an on-the-nose way, not that it felt remotely insulting. It was an evocative, well-judged massacre, but also an indictment.

Of course, had WWE built actual stars in the last few years, the return of a washed, out-of-puff Goldberg would not be necessary.

However, while Vince McMahon has pummelled this sort of thinking out of its audience, if this development ties into the winner of the men's Money In The Bank Ladder match, actual, competent things might yet happen...

Star Rating: ★★★¼
