7 Match Star Ratings For WWE WrestleMania 37 - Night 1

2. Bad Bunny & Damian Priest Vs. The Miz & John Morrison

The celebrity match is one that can't be accurately measured through the star rating system. If there was a separate star rating system for it, this bordered on the full five.

This was a hell of a celebrity match, even if it was laid out in the wrong order almost. It could have been even better than unexpectedly awesome, had Damian Priest sold. But he's a large individual, and you know what? It was probably better to lose the crowd for a couple of minutes than make The Miz look harder than WWE's new über-metal babyface.

All of this will get undone when Priest goes 15 minutes with Elias, and if that scans as cynicism, be reminded that it has already happened.

Bad Bunny was seemingly trained by Shane McMahon, looking at those potatoes, but is already considerably better. He at least connects and did not turn purple. His fire and selling was passable, but for a non-athlete, his athleticism was really quite impressive. The flying headscissors spot was a neat Holy Sh*t moment, and he bettered it at the finish.

He was in there too long, but who really gives a sh*t if WWE for some weird reason wanted to get their money's worth out of Bad Bunny? He was in there for an eternity, mind. Is Vince McMahon from Yorkshire? Ey up, pal!

It didn't matter. The finish was laid out impeccably to build to that Canadian Destroyer. It was - genuinely - a WrestleMania Moment, the magic of which was cast in the old-fashioned only-in-WWE way.

It almost functioned as a touching tribute to Pat Patterson.

Star Rating: ★★★½
