7 Most Ridiculous Ways To Build Towards WWE Matches

6. Chris Jericho Spills Coffee On Kane (Chris Jericho Vs. Kane, Survivor Series 2000)

Steve Austin crucified what a nakka eh?

In the year 2000, there were few babyfaces hotter than 'Y2J' Chris Jericho. At the same time, Kane still had a menacing aura about him despite having already flipped between machine-like heel and sympathetic figure since debuting several years before. Towards the end of the year, the then-WWF creative team decided it was time for Kane to return to his monstrous roots.

Lacking a suitable explanation for this, the writers simply had Jericho spill hot coffee on the 'Big Red Machine' by accident backstage. Talk about innocuous, this random act led to two consecutive pay-per-view clashes between the pair, with the first coming at Survivor Series in November.

Even though he apologised profusely for the incident, Jericho was beaten relentlessly by an irate Kane. Announcers were instructed to sell the idea that the hot liquid reminded the masked man of the burns he had suffered as a child.

Although there was something to work with along those lines, surely the WWF braintrust could have come up with something a little more exciting than some spilled coffee. Kane and Jericho even went on to have a Last Man Standing bout at Armageddon.

Well that escalated quickly.
