7 New Directions For WWE After Backlash 2025
3. Goldberg Standing Up To Bully Gunther
This is nitpicking, but yours truly personally wouldn’t have gone the quick nod of respect road with Gunther post-win over Pat McAfee on Saturday. Instead, he should've continued kicking lumps out of Pat as a helpless Michael Cole looked on. That would've reflected better on the heel comments Gunther made about rag dolling McAfee on Raw earlier in the week.
At any rate, some comeuppance is coming for the bully boy ex-World Champion.
Recent WWE news claims that none other than Bill Goldberg will go nose to nose with Gunther on a company card sooner rather than later, and this is expected to be Goldberg's formal retirement match. That'll have some sweating that Triple H's creative team will put the creaking former WCW star over one of this generation's best.
It's important to correct a recent write-up too. Previously, it was said that WWE couldn't book that match in Saudi Arabia, but the company announced Night Of Champions for Riyadh on 28 June at Backlash. In other words, they defo could go with Gunther vs. Goldberg in Saudi if the paymasters are willing to stump up some serious cash to fly that match in.
Goldberg became a bit of a stalwart on Saudi Arabian specials for a while, so he may not mind working his last WWE match ever over there if the price is right. Yeah, it does feel like Bill will be the one to stand up to Gunther for bullying announcers and semi-wrestlers like Pat McAfee.
