7 New Directions For WWE After Backlash 2025

2. John Cena Viciously Beating R-Truth

John Cena is currently raging an internal war inside his own head.

He's been lashing out at fans for mistreating him ever since turning heel at Elimination Chamber in early-March. Come Backlash, Cena was keen to shove some more back in the faces of everyone by beating Randy Orton in St. Louis during the pair's final match ever. Cena did that, which some predicted, but few could've foreseen R-Truth getting involved and being indirectly responsible for John's win.

Post-match, and once WWE's cameras starting winding down for the night, Cena wore a tortured look. Fans chanted, "Thank You Cena" at him, and there were tears in the man's eyes as he stared down at the WWE Title belt. This is a fascinating mental dichotomy for 'Super Cena'. He really isn't sure whether or not to continue raging against the machine that made him.

During the post-show press conference, Cena seemed humble and said he'd happily answer any questions those in attendance had for him. That's when Truth barged in and said fans were wrong to say his "childhood hero" can't wrestle. John eventually blasted Truth through a nearby table (which was actually kinda hilarious because it played out in total silence).

Expect to see more of this from Cena on the next Saturday Night’s Main Event. He'll show hesitancy when/if he's covered in R-Truth's blood in Tampa on 24 May, but only after viciously beating down somebody who's delusional and looks up to him. One of the least likely sympathetic babyface beatdowns of 2025 is on the way.
