7 Reasons WWE Should Treasure Asuka
5. Asuka Wa Ii Puromo Desu
Forgive my god-awful Japanese but that roughly translates to, "Asuka is a good promo". Which is a contentious statement to make, but that's kind of the point.
For this writer's money Asuka is, right now, one of the best promos in the WWE. Even though she speaks mostly in Japanese her mannerisms, facial expressions and occasional broken English leave the audience in no doubt as to her intent. Yes, there are quite a few people who are annoyed at her for ranting in a language they don't understand but:
a) She's a heel. She's not supposed to care if you like her or not.
b) When she's in full flow, there are fewer things more enthralling in WWE.
Just look at the YouTube comments page for the empty arena match between Andrade and Rey Mysterio on 16 March 2020. Almost no-one is discussing the match. Instead, the comments are evenly split between those who loved Asuka's commentary and those who hated it. Even the writers on this very website had split opinions over Asuka's appearance on the announce table. But the important thing is, no-one was ignoring it. When Asuka talks, she makes people listen through sheer charisma and force of personality, and that's a quality to be valued by any wrestling company.
