A babyface wrestler typically has to be a guy that works his ass off to earn the respect of the fans. He should be slapping hands with the fans at ringside, smiling a lot, showing lots of energy and doing those kinds of things. The Undertaker is an exception to that, but for the most part those babyfaces are the ones we're used to. That's not the kind of guy that Orton is. Orton's also somebody that isn't particularly strong on the microphone, especially as a babyface. In fact, here's how he explained it in a June 2013 interview with the Busted Open radio show: "I'm not the stick guy. I can't go out there like John Cena and cut a babyface promo that makes you want to kill yourself five minutes in, as good as he can. You know what I mean? No offense, John. Obviously he's very successful so, I don't know what I am talking about." In case you're wondering "the stick" is wrestler speak for the microphone. He knows he's not that kind of talker and that's part of the reason why he often times had a tough time connecting as a face. As an aside, here's an Orton item that was available on WWEShop.com recently. It's a napkin. Could you imagine a kids party with them eating birthday cake and these were the napkins they used? It would look so out of place. Orton has never been the guy that is going to suck up to the fans to earn their support. He does the same things as a face that he did as a heel. You would think he would do more to change things up, but that's why he was never a natural babyface at any point in his career.
