5. There Are Only A Handful Of Places For Actual News
Following the wrestling business isn't that hard on the internet. If you're a casual reader you really only need to go to a handful of sites to get what you need. Obviously if you're a hardcore fan you will be checking out sites like us here at WhatCulture and we thank you for that. We provide wrestling fans with features about the current product, wrestlers from the past, moments we loved and of course the things that WWE really doesn't want you to know about. Most of the actual news comes from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which is available via subscription at
f4wonline.com. I've been a subscriber for about eight years. I feel like it's worth the $10 for the audio and written content they provide over. He's been writing about wrestling for over 30 years. He's got a lot of connections in the wrestling business even if we might not know who they are. That's just how wrestling is. He's not always right, but is that his fault or the people in wrestling? Up to you to decide. I think he's good at what he does, so that's why I pay for it. Another site that has been good for info for the past decade or so is
PWInsider.com, which also has an "elite" section that people can pay for. I don't pay for it, but I do read their site on a daily basis. Others like
PWTorch.com and
Prowrestling.net are pretty good too. Both have VIP sections that you can pay for too. Other than that, a lot of the sites have similar stuff. They rely on the big guys to get the news, so fans just check them out rather than paying for more info. I check out a few of them daily as well. What's interesting about how wrestling news is reported is it's really not different from sports, music, movies or any other entertainment genre. Most of the news we get are from sources outside the actual companies and organization. A company like ESPN will report on a new contract for a player before others. You might read about a movie deal by Variety or the Hollywood Reporter. The Observer told us that Prince Devitt, KENTA and Kevin Steen are starting in WWE this summer yet WWE has said nothing about it. Doesn't mean it's false. It's just how WWE is. Be careful what you read about wrestling. It's not always truth and gospel, but there is plenty of good info out there too.
