7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (April 11)
1. Another Week, Another Great Main Event
It seems like SmackDown always manage to squeeze one fantastic match onto their weekly show, but we got two last night. The Usos vs. American Alpha likely scooped 'Match Of The Night' honours, but the main event between Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, and AJ Styles was every bit as exciting, and closed the show on a high note.
Styles scored the victory by pinning Zayn, but all three men looked strong. Corbin is a good, powerful base for the company's more athletic wrestlers, and his opponents are obviously among the best competitors in the company. If this is the kind of in-ring quality we can expect from SmackDown's reboot, then a great show is about to get even better, because the main event trio killed it last night.
AJ has now effectively become SD's most popular babyface without an official turn. He has switched alignments organically, and assuming Kevin Owens retains his United States Championship at Payback, their program should be excellent. SD's biggest win in the Superstar Shake-Up was keeping hold of Styles, and there's no reason to believe his run of excellence won't continue now that he's surrounded by a more talented supporting cast.
