7 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Apr 17)

Where the hell was this promo hiding?!

That's the question everyone needs to be asking after Sonya Deville scorched Mandy Rose for stealing the spotlight during their run as 'Fire & Desire'. This was a career-best performance from both. It wasn't over-thought, it wasn't too much, and they got everything right.

Sonya was a jealous, cutting bitch, Mandy came across as someone clearly beautiful who can look beyond the superficial, Dolph Ziggler flirted with sincerity whilst still being an egotistical jackass, and Otis got to look like the hero saving the day. Honestly, these mixed tag matches between all four could be wonderful.

Though this love interest angle has occasionally threatened to grow stale, it's been one of the best stories on WWE TV in years. That's high praise coming from someone who doesn't usually like soppy feel-good tales too.

Sonya needs a push, and that's not something this writer expected to be saying in April 2020 after years of bland performances.
