3. Gunther’s Weakness Is Jey’s Strength
Regardless of how their match goes in two weeks, Jey Uso and Gunther presented fans with very clear, disparate views of how they see the world Monday night.
Gunther interrupted Jey to congratulate him on defeating Logan Paul at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but he quickly segued to criticizing the World Heavyweight Champion for preoccupying himself with the problems his friends are facing (Uso had been seen backstage pledging to back Sami Zayn in the main event and is teaming with Cody Rhodes at Money in the Bank). To Gunther, being there for your friends is a great trait for a human being, but it is a terrible quality for a champion. The Ring General said he remained world champ for nearly a year because he only cared about himself, but Jey was too stupid to understand that distinction.
Uso was unfazed by Gunther, noting that he’s “a real one” and will be there for the same friends and family who have been there for him. Win or lose, Jey established himself as the loyal friend who won’t let the title change him or his values – another admirable quality. Even if he loses his title, Jey will go down as a loyal friend.
Jey would seemingly get lost with his promo, but he got across the major point to contrast Gunther, and that was the most important thing to convey. Uso isn’t out there kissing babies, but damned if he doesn’t feel like a genuine, true babyface compared to the selfish, self-serving Austrian.
