7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (Oct 17)

6. Adding Intrigue In A Bait-And-Switch

Normally, a situation where a promised match wasn’t delivered would be a negative. And when it involves the generally odious Dexter Lumis/Miz storyline, that seemed automatic.

However, WWE finally gave the angle some intrigue and forward motion Monday night by having Johnny Gargano act as a plot device. Gargano was paired up with Lumis in NXT, making him a perfect go-between. Johnny approached Miz in multiple backstage segments professing to know the “real story” between Dexter and Miz, urging Mike to “tell the truth” and all the stalking and kidnapping would go away.

Miz’s efforts to duck the match proved unsuccessful, so he simply laid Lumis out with a steel chair, but even after that, Gargano noted that that move would only delay the inevitable and once again told Miz to give Dexter what he was promised. If not, maybe Johnny would blow the whistle on it all.

Consider this a very mild bit of interest in this story, if only to see if we actually get a decent payoff. But most likely, this is a one-week positive speedbump, and we’ll be right back lamenting this angle being on our TVs.
