7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (9 Mar)

1. William Regal Rules

William Regal
AEW

Leave it to William Regal to cut the promo of the night after his new charges Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson disposed of the criminally underrated Workhorsemen in a brutal little match. JD Drake and Anthony Henry deserve bigger roles in pro wrestling. They showed plenty to get excited about opposite the Regal Violence Connection and weren't shy of matching Mox and Danielson blow-for-blow here, even though they were brought in to enhance, not shine.

Regal, though. F*cking hell. This man still has it.

From his teary-eyed "thank you" to Tony Schiavone for helping him early in his career to the cold-hearted warning for AEW's other tag teams that followed, Regal was great. Yes, he repeated himself a couple of times, but it didn't matter when the promo barely registered as a performance. This was as real as the four men standing in the ring.

Not only that, but the content perfectly tied everything together, from Regal's explanation of his past with Danielson and how the 'American Dragon' appealed to the wrestler in him, to how Moxley synergises with his inner rogue. They represent each side of Regal's coin - and that they had immediate chemistry as a tag team bodes incredibly well for the future.
