7 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Oct 13)

3. Canadian Roots

Despite having his ankle shattered last week, Rich Swann has somehow been cleared to challenge Eric Young for the World Championship at Bound For Glory.

That's not what we're focusing on for now, though. Instead, we're talking about the involvement of Scott D'Amore. For those veteran Impact fans, you'll be fully aware of Young and D'Amore's history from their days in Team Canada, and so the continued inclusion of Young's former coach added that extra personal layer to this rivalry.

After being informed of his title match going ahead, the reigning champion put his hands on Scott, as he has done before. The only difference was that this time, EY actually put the boots to D'Amore, knocking him to the ground before trapping him in that ankle lock variation he's perfected over the past few months. It wasn't until Swann saved his boss that D'Amore was free of the assault.

The choice to include authority figures in major storylines is often a hit or miss aspect of wrestling. That's not a problem here, as each and every moment D'Amore has featured in has been meaningful. He's near enough played just an important role as both champion and challenger have, and that's essentially impossible to achieve these days.
