7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (20 Feb - Results & Review)

Downs...

4. Main Event Situation Feels A Bit Messy

There's a reason why this one falls so early in the 'Downs' section.

Aleister Black can point to a win over Randy Orton, and that is an improvement for him considering recent events, but Drew McIntyre blasting Randy with the title when he already has Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu chasing him dilutes things a little. No, this wasn't a bad match by any means, but it felt like it was just really getting going when McIntyre sprinted in out of nowhere.

The finish kinda smacks of WWE not really knowing what they want to do at WrestleMania, so they’re just gonna chuck everyone in there as a challenger to Drew. That's...fine, but they'll need to be careful with it. There'd be less excitement for McIntyre vs. Cody vs. Fatu vs. Randy than some may imagine, especially on a weekender as grand as 'Mania. A match like that would lay bare the truth: That Triple H didn't really know which direction to go with.

It remains to be seen whether or not this will even pay dividends for Black too. He's been here before, then the writers totally forget about or give up on him. If they follow through on this victory, then fair enough, but pardon yours truly if he has his doubts. Aleister doesn't tend to stay hot for very long despite his obvious talent, and that's a shame.

This almost crept into 'Ups' territory, but the scatty nature of Drew's interference and the unconvincing way WWE has booked Black since his return held it back ever so slightly.
