7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Jan 17)

5. The Miz Returning The Favour

Yes, it was totally lazy, routine booking to have The Miz help John Morrison beat Big E after JoMo had helped him topple Kofi Kingston one week before. Sure, this is a go-to WWE strategy when they want to dip-feed storyline fuel and stretch it out for as long as possible.

That doesn't change the fact that this tag feud could be special.

Seeing Miz and Morrison back in the saddle feels right, and New Day needed a credible team to tango with at Royal Rumble and beyond. Now, they have that, and the resultant matches should be wonderful reminders of how good Kofi and E can be together when they actually have purpose and a rivalry to work with.

It might be straightforward stuff, but having the heels help one another week-to-week was the correct booking call here. They needed a few wins under their belt over the SmackDown Tag Champs to justify any title shot on pay-per-view.
