7 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 6)
3. MJF Is Ready To Go
While it was good to have MJF back in the arena last night, his best Dynamite moment came through a promo cut before a green-screened New York City skyline.
This was tremendous. MJF trashed the thirty-year-olds proclaiming them the "next big thing" and those comparing him to the likes of Ric Flair, The Rock, and Roddy Piper, citing the insecurity that every "top guy" has when they realise that a 24-year-old kid has taken their spot. There's more it in his pinkie finger than their entire bodies, he claimed. He's not The Rock, Flair, or Piper, but something the sport has never seen before, and now, with his life-threatening injuries behind him, he's coming back to pick up where he left off.
MJF was then ringside for another promo with Shawn Spears, during which it was confirmed he'd face Jungle Boy at Double Or Nothing. His reaction was much like many a viewer's as he spat his drink out, aghast, giving him yet another reason to rage against the hierarchy.
A wise move to keep 'The Salt of the Earth' away from the World Title picture for now. The Jungle Boy match is random, admittedly, though AEW has earned the trust that they'll take it somewhere interesting.
