7 Ups & 6 Downs From Impact Wrestling Hard To Kill 2020
2. Who Stops Taya?
Taya Valkyrie has lasted over a year as the Knockouts Champion, making her the longest-reigning champion in company history. It's a mighty impressive fact, and what's even more impressive is that she actually retained her title against both Jordynne Grace and ODB during the pay-per-view. Many fans, your writer included, were under the impression the reign of 'Wera Loca' would be coming to an end.
When the match was actually in progress, it was impossible to figure out who would be winning, seeing as each competitor got in their share of the offence. ODB laid out Grace with a thunderous fallaway slam on the ramp, while 'Thicc Mama Pump' took to the skies with a suicide dive into the champion. While the challengers laid it all on the line, Taya did her best to stay out of harm's way, but not so much so that there was ever any possibility she would lose her title.
The ending of the match played into Taya's character extremely well. Grace planted ODB on her neck with the Grace Driver, but after John E. Bravo distracted both Grace and the referee, Taya was able to take the pin for herself while Bravo held onto Jordynne's foot. It's exactly the type of thing we'd normally expect from Valkyrie as the Knockouts Champion. She hasn't exactly been known as being someone who wins matches by following the traditional wrestling rulebook.
As a result of her retaining the title, the question now comes up about who'll be the one to actually end her run with the championship. Tenille Dashwood? Madison Rayne for one final run? Tessa Blanchard? She's one for making history - how about the first ever World Champion vs. Knockouts Champion title vs. title match?
