7 Ups And 1 Down From UFC 245
3. Up - Aldana The Annihilator
UFC women's bantamweight, Irene Aldana, shocked a lot of fans and silenced any doubters at UFC 245, following an absolutely stunning knockout of Ketlen Vieira. Going into the fight, Aldana was a solid underdog against the Brazilian. However, if you didn't know she was, you'd never have guessed it, as she lit Vieira up early on, using precise, stinging shots to keep her on the outside.
The Brazilian showed very little respect for Aldana's power during their early exchanges, taking the strikes clean on the chin. However, when the 31-year old Mexican landed a devastating left hook to Vieira's jaw, the Brazilian was practically out before her head hit the canvas. A couple of extra strikes on the ground were the nail in the coffin needed to secure the victory and earn her a performance of the night bonus.
Following Amanda Nunes' title win over Germaine de Randamie, could Aldana be the next in line for a shot at the women's 135 lb strap? If she performs like she did in this fight, then it would certainly be an entertaining match-up between the two.
