7 Ups And 2 Downs For WWE NXT (Jun 29)
1. NXT Pull A Swerve In The Main Event
Hot on the heels of NXT promoting the return of the Breakout Tournament, two former participants in the concept in Bronson Reed and Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott rekindled their rivalry backstage mid-way through the North American Champion's interview.
Before long, Reed had been goaded into putting his belt on the line by Hit Row and with the match being positioned as the main event, you had a feeling something interesting could be on the horizon.
Sure enough, the two let loose for 20 minutes straight, with Reed doing his level best to grind Scott into a fine paste and the challenger using his guile and agility to catch the bigger man off-guard. After a prolonged spell of sheer physical dominance from the reigning title holder, though, the inevitable numbers game eventually came into play for the Hit Row leader.
That was until Top Dolla completely missed his attempt to steamroll Reed and went bounding straight through the barricade with a colossal thud. Ashante 'Thee' Adonis soon followed suit, but then it happened. Despite looking like he'd somehow be able to overcome the sizeable odds in front of him, Reed was suddenly caught with a nasty kick to the back of the head and a 450 splash; a combination which ended his fairytale reign at the top of the midcard.
It's no secret Reed has been on the cusp of call-up for weeks now, so giving Scott the North American strap made a boatload of sense, given his newfound momentum as Hit Row's focal point. What the future holds for NXT's midcard is anyone's guess, but for now, Scott can sit pretty as the dust settles on NXT's latest unexpected Swerve...
