7 Ups And 3 Downs For Last Night's NXT (May 6)

2. Cruiser... wait?

Gallagher Tozawa

Here we are ladies and gentlemen, it's time once again for the best thing in NXT. The Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament that is giving some of the company's most talented yet perennially underutilized performers a brilliant and substantial platform on which to craft technically engaging, proficient matc... oh it's finished already is it? Awkward.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with short matches and, more to the point, there's nothing wrong with putting them in tournaments to mix things up a bit, but they way Gallagher and Tozawa cut themselves off after 4 minutes didn't work at all. If you're going that short then the match should fly out of the traps and be over before the audience catch their breath... this had rest holds.

It's not even as if it was presented as someone catching their opponent Outtanowhereâ„¢, Tozawa was just able to hit a big move on the outside before slowly rolling Gallagher back into the ring and hitting his finisher. I honestly had to rewind to make sure I hadn't skipped a chunk.

This tournament is crying out for a lightning squash to really get somebody over as a favourite, but this sadly wasn't that. Instead, it had all the hallmarks of two people who'd planned a really good 10-minuter out, only to get the signal from the ref to finish early. Hopefully, they both get more time in their final match.
