7 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (April 23)

1. Grinding To A Screeching Halt

It’s understandable that the writers wanted all the focus to be on Ronda Rousey when she stormed out to save Natalya from a Mickie James beatdown.

But it was a little ridiculous that after Nia Jax dove onto seven of the competitors in the 10-woman tag match, the eight of them were taken out for a solid two minutes. Meanwhile, Mickie recovered, attacked Nattie, backpedaled from Rousey, attacked Ronda, and then got put in an armbar, which drew a DQ.

We’ve seen wrestlers getting taken out of action for several minutes after a single move, but this was just a little too much. It was just a crappy ending to a women’s main event match, which gave the impression that the rest of the women’s division was a backdrop for Rousey to flash her two best moves: a judo takedown and armbar.

And while Rousey is the biggest mainstream star on the women’s roster, this could have been handled better. Maybe the women are actively fighting on the other side of the ring and the ref is dealing with them, so Rousey saves Natalya on the other side. That would have accomplished the same thing without the entire division taking a powder so Ronda could save the day.
