It’s funny how a guy coming out from the back and simply issuing an impassioned promo and challenge can get fans pumped up and rally them to his side. Rather than having an authority figure making matches backstage, which doesn’t do nearly as much.

Case in point, Heath Slater came out while Miz and Dean Ambrose were arguing over the Intercontinental Championship and pointed out that he pinned Miz recently and felt he deserved an IC title shot. he pointed out that he’s been in WWE for eight years and had never gotten a singles title shot. He (of course) noted that he’s got kids. And then Kurt Angle granted him a title match.

Slater hung in there with Miz, scoring numerous 2-counts and nearly pulling it off. But some outside shenanigans cost him the match. Still, Slater looked good and had a ton of support, which is what you want in this type of impromptu match.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
