For as far back as most can remember, Lucha House Party has been either a trio of jobbers or comedy relief. So when Gran Metalik was announced as Rey Mysterio’s opponent for Raw, some might have been scratching their heads.

But Metalik is an accomplished wrestler, the runner-up on the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic. And the King of the Ropes got a chance to show off his skills Monday night, tangling with Mysterio in a competitive match that saw both men start off with some lucha parity before hitting each other with some high-flying offense.

The outcome – Rey would overcome and hit a 619 and frogsplash for the win – wasn’t really in doubt, but if you came into Raw thinking that Gran Metalik was just one of the goofy guys who carries a pinata to the ring, well, you’re right, but he’s more than that.

And now you saw it with your own eyes.
