7 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Oct 22)

4. Meandering Superhero

Drew McIntyre Ricochet

Quick, what is Ricochet’s direction, or trajectory, in WWE?

The answer is, no one knows. Ricochet might be one of the top superstars on Raw, just given in-ring ability and crowd reaction, but WWE can’t seem to figure out what they have on their hands. They gave him and Aleister Black a nice push as a tag team – then let them fizzle out. They gave Ricochet the United States Championship – then had him lose it (and a subsequent feud) to AJ Styles after less than a month.

WWE had Ricochet (whose Twitter handle literally is @KingRicochet) enter the King of the Ring tournament – then had him lose in the semi-finals to eventual winner (and charisma vacuum) Baron Corbin.

And on Monday, Ricochet lost to a returning Drew McIntyre in a solid TV bout – then got pummeled after the loss.

None of this means that Ricochet should never lose and win the Universal Championship tomorrow. But it doesn’t feel like there’s a plan for Ricochet, other than keeping him on TV. Yes, that’s a good thing, but every week he’s out there without real direction is a week where he’s less special than he was when he debuted.
