7 WWE 25th Anniversary RAW Returns Who Couldn't Survive PG
3. Terri Runnels
During her early days, Terri Runnels made her mark as Marlena, Goldust’s cool and mysterious manager before changing her stage name later on. She was known for smoking cigars, remaining indifferent, and seducing superstars. Almost all of her mannerisms during her time as Marlena would never be allowed today on RAW or SmackDown Live (look how much trouble R-Truth smoking a cigarette caused), but they weren’t close to being her worst.
Whether it was her provocative skits with Val Venis or competing in such battles as a Wet T-Shirt contest with Trish Stratus, Runnels continued to thrive on tropes that would instantly set PG WWE ablaze with negative PR.
Stripped from her temptress persona, she would be left to make a mark with either her ring or mic skills. Runnels only wrestled occasionally, and when she did, it was usually part of a gimmick match involving lingerie or cat fighting. Unfortunately, there is no room for such a competitor on WWE’s current roster. And although she was a better back stage interviewer than performer, she would struggle to compete with the charismatic performances of Charly Caruso or Renee Young. In short, there is nothing to Terri Runnels that would ever thrive in present-day WWE.
