7 WWE Couples That Should Have Been

4. Kurt Angle & Stephanie McMahon

There haven€™t been many wrestlers quite like Kurt Angle. He came into professional wrestling in late-1999 and less than a year later he was wrestling on the top of the card alongside the likes of The Rock and Triple H. It wasn€™t just his wrestling ability that got him to this point, it was how quickly he adapted to the WWF€™s unique style of entertainment and it was with Triple H, and more importantly, Stephanie McMahon that he had one of his most memorable storylines. In the mid-2000s, Angle got embroiled in a love-triangle with the McMahon-Helmsleys as he became closer to Stephanie. While they both swore that the relationship was strictly professional, Kurt Angle made his intentions known when he kissed a disoriented Stephanie on episode of SmackDown. The proposed blowoff to this feud was apparently for Stephanie to betray Triple H and ally herself with Kurt, but for a number of reasons this was nixed. The main reason why this angle was scrapped has been speculated to be Triple H not wanting to be split up from Stephanie, as off-screen they hadn€™t been together for long. Also, €œStone Cold€ Steve Austin was on his way back and along with the The Rock, The Undertaker and Chris Jericho there were top-heavy on main-event faces anyway. As interesting as a Kurt/Stephanie alliance would have been, fans would have missed out on some of Triple H€™s best heel work including the infamous Three Stages Of Hell match against Austin and the first of three WrestleMania matches against The Undertaker.
