7 WWE NXT Takeover Main Event Matches - From Worst To Best

1. Adrian Neville Vs. Sami Zayn - NXT Takeover: R Evolution

This match is easily one of, if not the best match in NXT history. Even if you watch it with zero context, the awe-inspiring ability of both Zayn and Neville speaks for itself, and the guys made it so easy to become invested in. The two guys who made NXT what it is today, battling it out for what I believe is one of the most prestigious titles in WWE right now.

The story of this match saw Sami Zayn walk in with no intention of losing, declaring that if he left Full Sail without the NXT Title that night, then it could be the last time he ever laces up a pair of boots. He’d come so close several times before, losing a #1 Contender’s Match to Tyler Breeze at the inaugural NXT Takeover event, and having his chances stolen from him by Neville at Fatal Four-Way, so it was “do or die” for Sami Zayn at R Evolution.

After a hard-fought battle, Sami Zayn, having come out on top of a moral dilemma including a downed referee, the NXT Title and Adrian Neville’s skull, connected with the Helluva Kick and pinned the champion to win the biggest match of his WWE career. The celebration that followed, as well as the wonderful show of respect between both competitors, was so heart-warming. A well-deserved moment shared by two amazing professional wrestlers.

Sami’s victory, and his reign too, would be cut short by Kevin Owens, but the moment will still live on as one of the best in NXT. Just look at Zayn and Neville now. They’ve both been in terrific matches with John Cena, and when Zayn makes his return from injury, I’m sure they’ll both be fan favourites on the main roster together as well.

There it is! The question to ponder now is where Bayley vs. Sasha Banks, the first Women’s Main Event in NXT Takeover history will lie on this list after Takeover: Respect. Will it be up there as one of the best, or will the hype get to the women a little too much? Sound off in the comments below!
