7 WWE NXT Takeover Main Event Matches - From Worst To Best
2. Ladder Match: Finn Bálor Vs. Kevin Owens - NXT Takeover: Brooklyn
Finn Bálor’s journey to becoming NXT Champion was one that history books were made for.
The Cinderella story of a man who started small in Bray, Ireland, got booked in the UK and eventually got noticed and hired to go and wrestle in Japan, where an eight-year long career made him one of the most well-versed, polished wrestlers in the world.
Fast forward to this summer and Finn Bálor returns to the city that made him famous, and becomes the NXT Champion in front of the Tokyo crowd. Kevin Owens, convinced that Bálor’s victory was a fluke, demanded his rematch and it would take place in a ladder match in front of the largest NXT crowd to date, in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The match was brilliant, back-and-forth and included some pretty sick spots including a pop-up (or down) powerbomb from the top of the ladder from Kevin Owens, and a monumental coup de grace from the top rung to aid Finn Bálor to victory, and a successful title defence.
Both men looked phenomenal coming out of the match, and this only keeps the ball rolling with regards to NXT delivering some of the most exciting content on a weekly basis.
