When Kevin Owens arrived on the main roster scene last summer and somehow managed to cleanly defeat John Cena in the centre of the ring, many thought that maybe it was a sign of times changing. Was it time for Cena to start putting over new talent in a more clarified manner?

The short answer to that question is an unfortunate, resounding 'no'. Owens picked up the victory in the initial match, but that was as good as it got for the man formerly known as Kevin Steen. Big Match John picked up victories in the next two matches, and it was directly to the mid card for Owens.

Sour grapes maybe, but as with the names to follow on this list the victory in the first place felt like it was came only with the caveat that Cena will still come out victorious on the other end. The only difference was that Owens won clean, but almost a year later this fact has somewhat faded into the background.

It can always be pointed to, but did it have any long term positive implications for Kevin Owens?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
