7 WWE TLC 2020: Tables, Ladders & Chairs Impulse Reactions

1. "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt Vs. Randy Orton

Rather than simply putting this (yet again) cursed programme out of its misery just days before Tables, Ladders and Chairs, WWE decided to literally kill it with fire.

Bringing together both a gimmick that saved Bray Wyatt's career and one that killed it the first time, the Firefly Inferno was par for the course for a standard throwaway December show, let alone one in 2020. It took ring announcer Mike Rome confirming that one of them needed to burn before any of us knew the stipulation for definite.

It's been a while since we've seen The Fiend formally, but it hasn't brought the aura back. Burning a prop alive was the next desperately dull grab for it as WWE kind of sort of delivered what they promised in a match simultaneously as dumb as a Wyatt one but as boring as an Orton one all at the same time.

The decision to have it go on last was all the more perplexing, even if it was obvious why the show ended within seconds of the stunt. The company found a fitting way to bid farewell to the year on pay-per-view, as yet again some surprisingly decent action was robbed of conversation by overcooked (lol) stunt sh*t.

This was and is WWE in 2020 - one wonders which habits will stick if "normal" is located in 2021.
