7. Years Of Sacrificing His Body Has Left Abyss A Shell Of His Former Self

"The Monster" Abyss is a competitor that has pledged the majority of his career to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. As one of the most giving performers in the industry, not unlike the legendary Mick Foley, Abyss has sacrificed his body in some of the most violent matches of all-time. He has fallen through tables, crashed into barbed wire and been penetrated by hundreds of thumbtacks. He has worked smaller stars, massive heavyweights and everyone in between. Unfortunately, 13 years of punishment has left him a shell of his former self, something that could not even be hidden in a tag team match in York. Abyss partnered with fellow Revolution teammate Manik to battle TNA world tag team champions Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards--The Wolves. While the match was entertaining, Abyss was the clear weak link. He was slower and unable to keep up with his fellow performers, leading to audible comments about his health among the fans in attendance. He looked very much like an aging veteran slowed by his unwillingness to change his style and preserve his health. It is a shame but, at the same time, a testament to his loyalty and determination to entertain the audience. Even if it meant harming his well being at the same time.

Erik Beaston is a freelance pro wrestling writer who likes long walks in the park, dandelions and has not quite figured out that this introduction is not for Match.com. He resides in Parts Unknown, where he hosts weekly cookouts with Kane, The Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and The Boogeyman. Be jealous.
