8 MORE Stupid Reasons Wrestlers Turned Heel
4. Mick Foley Believes Edge Is More Extreme Than Tommy Dreamer And Terry Funk
Without a doubt, Former WWE Champion Edge truly announced himself as a bona fide top guy after his ferocious battle with hardcore legend Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22.
Sure, he'd already held the company's top belt for a spell, but it was in this 'Show of Shows' Hardcore match that fans started to really believe he had the ability to get down and dirty with the best of them, and Foley was largely to thank for this savage coming out party.
Yet, what happened next caught everyone by surprise... and not in a good way.
A couple of weeks after sharing the ring with the 'Rated 'R' Superstar', Foley proclaimed that Edge embodied everything that hardcore was about more than the 'slime that oozed out of ECW'. This came after the extreme legend's shocking attacks on ECW all-stars like Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk, kickstarting a run which would see Foley and Edge feuding with the hardcore icons of the past.
Fans weren't on board with this odd turn because it simply didn't add up.
Foley was aligning himself with Edge and WWE to battle against a resurgent ECW brand featuring some of his oldest pals because he thought their 'Mania war was better than any other extreme performance in wrestling history. It was a brutal encounter, yes. But, did he really believe it held a candle to his Barbed Wire Death matches with Funk?
The whole thing felt contrived and unconvincing, and Foley was mercifully turned face after being 'fired' in late 2006.
