8 Most Shocking Title Changes In WWE NXT History
1. Samoa Joe Vs Finn Balor
Unquestionably the most shocking title switch in NXT history. Just take one look at the reaction of the crowd when Joe got the three count for proof. Taking place on a house show in Lowell, Massachusetts, not one person in that arena thought for a second that Joe was taking home the NXT Championship that night; but the NXT bookers had a surprise in store.
Capitalising on a supposed Balor injury, Joe quickly rolled the champ back into the ring and hit the Muscle Buster to capture the title in front of the lucky house show crowd, who couldn't believe what they'd just witnessed. It was an interesting move; on the one hand, the fact that the match has never been aired in full on the WWE Network seems an odd decision given that it was the end to the longest title reign in NXT history. On the other hand, however, it instilled in the fans' minds that truly anything could happen if they bought tickets to an NXT show.
Balor had several rematches but never won back the belt before his inevitable call-up to the main WWE roster. Joe, meanwhile, has only gone from strength-to-strength; fleshing out his entitled heel character to new levels in the months which followed. But no matter what title changes NXT throw at us down the line, we can't imagine they'll be able to pull off a more shocking one than this.
