When up-and-coming rookies Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy earned a tag team title shot against the Lucha Dragons, it seemed like a stop gap title defence for Kalisto and Sin Cara ahead of NXT TakeOver: Rival. Instead, the newcomers pulled off - at that point - the biggest shock title change in the history of the company, when Blake rolled up an unsuspecting Kalisto for the win.

While some assumed the win would be a flash in the pan, Blake & Murphy retained the titles against the Lucha Dragons at the TakeOver special the next month and even kept hold of the belts against the super over Enzo and Cass. It's clear that the NXT brass were doing everything they could to get the newcomers over.

Unfortunately, while the addition of Alexa Bliss to their ranks improved her as a performer immeasurably, Blake and Murphy never really took that next step during their title reign. Despite being talented in the ring and putting on good matches, there was no gimmick or character for the crowd to latch on to and the guys have been treading water in NXT ever since.
