5. John Cena’s Final Match Focus
Now this IC Title clash with Dominik Mysterio is out of the way, John Cena can concentrate fully on the 13 December Saturday Night's Main Event. The circumstances make this the biggest SNME ever - it’ll feel almost PLE level due to Cena’s retirement, and that's a good thing. WWE should embrace it, 'cause they don't have another major show outside the weekly TV stuff all month.
The next fortnight or so of WWE television will be dominated by Cena hype packages, classic moments and more. He'll be largely absent from all of it, at least in person. Currently, John is down to just a single date left on his retirement tour. That'll be in Washington at SNME, so anyone hoping for in-ring hype promos for a bout with the winner of the tournament WWE have been running is about to be disappointed.
Speaking of which, far too much of Cena's retirement run has been disappointing. His heel turn was fabulous, but the aftermath wasn't properly thought out. Further, some of the matches he's been working have been a little flimsy. That WrestleMania battle with Cody Rhodes, for example, was a huge letdown considering the buzz going into it.
Neither of the 2 title reigns Hunter has given him worked all that well either. Being fair, all of that is in the past now. All WWE and Cena can do is look forwards to 13 December and try to make SNME the best occasion it can be. Emotions will be running high for John. You might even hear Michael Cole shed a tear from behind the announce desk!
