7. John Cena vs Brock Lesnar- Extreme Rules 2012
WWE.comEarlier this week, Amazon supposedly spoiled the Summerslam main event when they displayed Cena and Lesnar as the cover on the upcoming DVD release. If it is true, then it should be a brutal, epic bout, if their first match 2+ years ago is anything to go by. Brock Lesnar, even before he broke the Streak, is invaluable to WWE in the sense that he and he alone brings a legitimacy to the product it doesn't have, as a genuine, shoot-fight champion from the UFC. More to the point, he catches your gaze... and keeps it there. In the purest sense, he's a draw and when put with an opponent willing to take a few stiff bumps, as Cena did, it dispels any notion of pro-wrestling being exclusively smoke and mirrors. This match, whilst scripted, is as close to a genuine shoot-fight that WWE has produced in years and, for the casual viewer, should immediately earn their respect for the genuine physical risks the competitors take in the ring. Yes, pro-wrestling is scripted but, as the old safety packages used to say, the hazards are real. This match goes a long way in illustrating that.
