8 Reasons Holly Holm Knocked Out Ronda Rousey At UFC 193

6. Poor Coaching

Ronda Rousey trains under coach Edmond Tarverdyan, a man who has been under considerable scrutiny of late. For starters, he recently filed for bankruptcy, claiming that he hadn't made any money in years. If you can't make money coaching one of the best fighters in the world, you have no business guiding a fighter's career. Period. It gets worse. Ronda Rousey's mother, who trained her in judo as a child and is herself a world champion, spoke out against Taverdyan in the weeks leading up to UFC 193, calling him a terrible coach who didn't even want to work with Rousey until she became a star - when he realized he could cash in off her. Finally, his advice between rounds was puzzling: Rousey at that point was playing right into Holm's gameplan, yet he told her she had done "beautiful work" and didn't bother warning her that she was setting herself up for failure. Ouch.
