1. Rousey Fought Sloppy
Andy Brownbill/AP Ronda Rousey might have been beaten in the second round, but she was broken in the first when she decided to throw caution to the wind, and paid for it. She was rocked early, and between rounds, it was easy enough to see where things were headed. When her coach didn't correct her course and Rousey herself couldn't seem to, Holm capitalized by landing a crushing kick to the side of Rousey's head, knocking her out. The follow up punch didn't even matter - the kick ended the night, and the bad game plan led to the kick. It all boils down to Rousey being sloppy in the fight. Low hands, high chin, charging after Holm with reckless abandon - it wasn't just poor planning, it was downright ugly. Rousey didn't look like the best in the world - and she wasn't. Holm was, because she showed both patience and skill. A rematch here is critical: for the first time since women began fighting in the UFC, Ronda Rousey is not champion. She's still a special talent, incredibly skilled, but how she bounces back from this loss will tell us who the best really is. Almost no one leaves MMA undefeated: Georges St. Pierre lost twice, but came back to avenge those losses. If Rousey can do the same, she can still prove herself as one of the greats. In the meantime, hat's off to Holly Holm, the new UFC women's bantamweight champion!
