8 Second Generation Wrestlers' Favourite Legacy Matches
7. Tamina – Jimmy Snuka
In the run up to the first ever women’s Money in the Bank match in 2017, Tamina reflected on her father’s legacy in the business – particularly potent as Tamina was competing in the historic match on Father’s Day. She evoked her love for her father’s classic steel cage match against Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden on 17 October 1983.
After Snuka lost the contest, and his chance to snatch the Intercontinental Championship from Muraco, he returned to the cage. After taking Muraco down with a bodyslam, Snuka was ready to wow the wrestling world.
Tamina discussed her reverence for the moment her father took to the top of the steel cage and delivered a Superfly Splash. While looking back on the moment, it is hard for the modern wrestling fan to understand the impact of the stunt. Yet the moment was the historic precursor to Foley’s cell dive and the utterly jaw-dropping antics of early TLC matches.
Tamina described her father’s most famous moment as:
“...one of those things where you were just like ‘Holy cr*p. I’m gonna take that with me every day – this is crazy' […] I remember being a young girl and seeing my dad do that […] it was so emotional because he was making history out of nowhere.”
